Dear Barnard Community,

We hope you are enjoying this spring weather that is upon us. We wanted to give you an update on what to expect on our Barnard Hall construction project in the coming weeks.

  • The women’s and gender neutral restrooms on the first floor of Barnard Hall will be closed starting April 17. The men’s restroom on the first floor will be converted to a gender neutral restroom on a temporary basis. Please note signage as these restrooms are closed and converted.
  • Beginning next week, there will be more work in the interior of Barnard Hall and you will start to see an increase in the number and frequency of deliveries along Claremont Avenue. You may also see more workers on-site and expect to hear minor noise disturbances due to hammer, drilling and other typical construction practices.
  • The façade demolition we mentioned a few weeks ago was delayed, but we expect to restart that work the week of April 24. As we shared in the Spring Break update, this work is to open the façade on the westside of Barnard Hall to build the entrance to the construction site. All outside work will be contained within the plywood shed in place on Claremont Avenue as the construction members move material and debris, but we do expect noise and vibration impacts to be more significant. We will have flag people directing traffic along the sidewalk and Claremont Ave. as needed. Any non-construction vehicles located within the construction lane or found within the overall parameters of the construction lane (if barricades are found to be moved) will be towed at the owner’s expense.
  • Some demolition work will start on the first floor in the coming weeks, but the exact start date hasn’t been determined. We will keep you updated as that timeline is finalized as it will have greater impacts on the lobby and other first floor areas access.
  • Also, please note, there will be no noisy work during Reading Days and Finals Week.
  • And, finally, there may be limited locations where Wi-Fi is not operational in the basement and first floor corridors of Barnard Hall.

As always, we will be doing our best to minimize disruptions and keep you informed as the project moves forward this spring and summer.
