In June 2021, Barnard College joined the COVID-19 College Vaccine Challenge. Launched by the White House and the U.S. Department of Education on June 2, 2021, the challenge invites colleges and universities across the country to help end the pandemic by taking actions to get their campus communities vaccinated. So far, over 350 schools have joined the initiative, including Columbia University.
Barnard’s commitment to the challenge:
- Educate our community about vaccine safety and eligibility.
- Provide vaccines to our community and help them secure appointments.
- Implement a plan to get as many people vaccinated as possible.
Throughout the pandemic, Barnard has closely monitored the number of COVID-19 cases by regularly testing community members on campus and reporting positive cases on the COVID-19 Dashboard. The College has also provided information on COVID-19 testing and vaccine appointments in New York State and New York City via a dedicated alert page and through social media. In September 2020, the College launched the Health Ambassador Program to educate the community and ensure a healthy campus experience for all. These collective efforts have helped reduce the prevalence of COVID-19 in our community.
To access campus this fall, proof of vaccination or an approved exemption will be required by August 15, 2021, for all faculty, staff, and students. That’s why it’s more important than ever to take part in this challenge. Together, we will keep one another and our surrounding Morningside Heights community safe.
