In keeping with its long-standing legacy, Barnard has again been recognized as one of the top institutions to send students and alumnae abroad through the Fulbright U.S. Students and Fulbright U.S. Scholars Program.
The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs named the College a “Top Producing Institution of Fulbright U.S. Students for the 2023-2024 academic year” on February 13. The news was announced in The Chronicle of Higher Education, which publishes the list of top producers annually. This is the seventh year in a row that Barnard has received this distinction.
“Barnard College’s designation as a Fulbright Top Producing Institution clearly demonstrates [its] dedication to promoting global engagement and mutual understanding among the peoples and nations of the world,” said Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, in a congratulatory letter to Barnard.
The 2023-2024 Fulbright cycle marked another record number of applicants, with over 45 applications submitted. Fourteen of the College’s alumnae were ultimately selected, which is the largest cohort to date, up from 11 the previous year. They are currently serving as graduate students, researchers, and English teaching assistants in 10 host countries, including Taiwan, Ecuador, and Germany.
Since the 2004-2005 academic year, Barnard has been named a Fulbright Top Producing Institution a total of 14 times, demonstrating the College’s continued eminence in producing world-class scholars.
The College’s success in this arena is owed in large part to Beyond Barnard, which provides professional development support to students and alumnae, beginning when they arrive at the College and continuing throughout their careers.
