On August 25, 2021, the Brookings Institution announced its third class of David M. Rubenstein Fellows with Belinda Archibong, an assistant professor of economics at Barnard, among the 10 outstanding early- and mid-career scholars to receive the prestigious award. The two-year fellowship is made possible by Brookings Trustee David M. Rubenstein, co-founder and co-chairman of The Carlyle Group, and is designed to support the fellows’ research on today’s most important policy issues with the goal of producing a diverse array of work that will make an impactful difference.
Professor Archibong is recognized for her scholarly work related to research in developmental economics, economic history, political economics, and environmental economics in the African region. Archibong is focused on researching the effects of epidemics on the gender gaps in human capital, as well as the effects of climate change (specifically air pollution) on human capital outcomes and how certain institutions might, in turn, exacerbate or mitigate these negative outcomes.
