On February 10, assistant economics professor Belinda Archibong presented her research paper "The Value of Communications During a Pandemic" at the 2021 National Bureau of Economic Research conference. Co-authored by Archibong and funded in part by a Barnard mini grant, the paper offers an in-depth analysis of the benefits of mobile phone programs in Ghana on consumers' spending patterns and psychological well-being. Archibong demonstrates how vital the ability to communicate with others is during the COVID-19 pandemic, when many are isolated and social distancing protocols are a priority.
