On November 22, 2021, Michael G. Campbell, assistant professor of chemistry, in collaboration with the Bostick group at Columbia Lamon-Doherty Earth Observation and Natasha Reich ‘21, published research in ACS Environmental, titled “Determination of Arsenic Content in Water Using a Silver Coordination Polymer.” In this article, the researchers describe a new method of testing water samples for arsenic contamination, which is an environmental health problem that affects millions around the world. The novel test allows for rapid analysis of water samples in the field while providing a safer way to use current methods that rely on toxic mercury salts. This work was supported by a Barnard College Presidential Research Award.
