This year, when Barnard welcomes new students to campus, it will do so as the most selective women’s college in the United States. The College received a record-breaking 10,394 applications, up from 9,411 last year, and selected 11% of those who applied — the lowest admission rate in Barnard’s history. Of the 1,191 students admitted this year, 65% chose to enroll.

Barnard’s newest students will represent 28 different countries from around the world — including Bolivia, Ethiopia, Romania, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates — as well as 41 U.S. states. The Class of 2025 also brings 12 recruited and 13 walk-on athletes to campus, representing close to a dozen sports, from archery to volleyball. One such athlete is a regional basketball champion whose team won third place representing Spain in the European Championship.
“We have missed the individual and collective energy that students bring to campus,” said Dean of the College Leslie Grinage. “Barnard students have many talents and passions, some of which are yet to be discovered, and it is a privilege for our faculty and staff to be able to bear witness, once again in person, to students’ discovery and development. We look forward to the great contributions the Class of 2025 will make to the Barnard community and the opportunity to be with them every step of the way.”

“We look forward to getting to know the Class of 2025, an exceptional and diverse group who exemplified resilience, perseverance, and initiative, especially over the past 18 months,” said Jennifer Fondiller ‘88, Vice President for Enrollment and Communications. “Like Barnard, these students excelled by being adaptable and bold, and we are so excited to have them join Barnard’s community for their next four years on campus and beyond.”
