In May 2021, Abosede George, Tow Associate Professor of History and Africana Studies, created the Forward Ever Podcast in collaboration with her students and a Harlem-based non-profit advocacy group African Communities Together. This podcast profiles African immigrants in New York City, who have been vital in shaping the city economically, socially, and civically. In the podcast, 12 leaders from the community are introduced through a series of interviews, where each leader describes their personal stories and reflections. Named after Ghana’s first president Kwame Nkrumah’s famous words, “Forward Ever, Backward Never,” the podcast seeks to raise visibility and celebrate these leaders, who showcase how women and men who stem from different regions on the Continent continue to make positive changes in their communities.
