In February 2021, assistant professor of economics Belinda Archibong published the paper "Washington Consensus Reforms and Economic Performance in Sub-Saharan Africa" through the Brookings Institution, a nonprofit public policy organization centered around research on national and global issues. Co-authored by Archibong, the paper presents findings on the effects of "Washington consensus" policies, which contain structural market reforms, on sub-Saharan African economies. In this paper, Archibong — whose academic interests include political economy and environmental economics across Africa — focuses on the efficacy of these reform policies in improving socioeconomic performance.
