On July 28, 2023, Nara Milanich, professor of history, participated in a congressional briefing focused on examining immigration along the southern U.S. border within historical context. Milanich and two colleagues from Northwestern University and Columbia University presented historical perspectives on the southwestern border as the main site of controversy over immigration to the U.S. The briefing, hosted by the American Historical Society, is part of an initiative seeking to provide congressional staff members, journalists, and other interested parties with the historical background on topics of current concern in a constructive and nonpartisan environment.
