NSOP Orientation Leaders

Orientation Leaders (OLs) are necessary for the smooth transition of new students into the Barnard community. OLs are assigned a group of 8-12 students that they lead and support throughout the week of NSOP. OLs are responsible for communicating and meeting with these new students about events and to offer advice and encouragement during their transition to Barnard. OLs also assist with working various NSOP events. They may be assigned to staff events, tours, trips, or lectures. Orientation Leaders are expected to keep excitement and energy going for the incoming students, and make this years NSOP one to remember!

Position Description for NSOP 2021 Orientation Leaders:

Orientation Leaders are expected to:

  • Act as a peer mentor to a group of 8-12 new students, and provide them with guidance and resources.

  • Staff assigned NSOP programs and work with other leaders and staff members to ensure each one runs successfully.

  • Serve as a table facilitator for Discover Barnard Blue (DBB), Student Life's social justice education session, & the Being Barnard, sexual violence preventive education session.

  • Communicate and work primarily with the NSOP Crew Captain, as well as the NSOP Committee and the staff members.

  • Maintain a positive attitude towards Barnard College and NSOP.

  • Be available at all times for training and assignments throughout the duration of NSOP, which concludes on Monday, September 6. Schedules and assignments will not be available until training. Although there will be free time, OLs should expect to work every day during NSOP.

  • Must be a matriculated Barnard student during Spring & Fall 2021 and remain in good standing with the college.

Time Commitments for NSOP 2021 Orientation Leader:

  • Attend Orientation Program Study Break: TBD

  • Arrive to campus/move-in on Tuesday, August 24 between 9am-5pm (subject to change due to COVID-19 regulations) 

  • Attend all of NSOP training from Wednesday, August 25 - Friday, August 27 (remote or in-person)

  • Be present for the duration of NSOP 2021 (Sunday, August 29- Monday, September 6)

        *You must be available for all dates listed above to be considered for the position*

     **We ask applicants to be flexible as changes may occur due to COVID-19 regulations** 

Timeline for NSOP 2021 Orientation Leader Selection:

  • Application opens: Monday, February 15

  • Application closes: Monday, March 8

  • All applicants need to attend at least one info session via Zoom listed below:

    • Wednesday, February 24 | 8:00am-8:30am EST 

    • Thursday, February 25  | 5:00pm-5:30pm EST

    • Friday, February 26 | 12:00pm-12:30pm EST

  • Participate in an individual interview via Zoom (Monday, March 15  - Tuesday, March 23)

  • Offers sent out on Monday, March 29

  • Offers to be confirmed by Friday, April 2

Note: Info Sessions and Individual Interviews will be scheduled by Student Life based on the availability you share in the application. Notifications will come as time approaches.
