Services for Current Scholars
Advising
Counseling services are provided by the HEOP professional staff on an individual or group basis. HEOP students receive the following types of counseling:
- Academic: HEOP Staff will assist with the selection of finalizing your course program and selecting an academic major.
- Personal: HEOP Staff will assist in your development, self-confidence and a positive attitude about your college experience. Students may also be referred to the Rosemary Furman Counseling Center.
- Career and Internship Placement: Career counseling & workshops will help you in selecting the necessary courses to prepare you for employment or post-graduate study. Your HEOP counselor may also refer you to other resources on campus such as Beyond Barnard, an initiative that integrates five areas of student support - career development, graduate and professional school preparation, research and competitive fellowships, internships, and student employment.
Meet with a HEOP Scholars adviser to discuss issues that are academic, personal, and/or financial. We can help you plan your academic program, refer you to appropriate departments, or just listen.
Please call the HEOP office (212) 854-3583 or email heop@barnard.edu to make an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome.
Tutors (Academic Assistance Program)
The department in conjunction with the Dean of Studies Academic Assistance Program will provide tutorial support. For help with writing, please sign up for a Writing Fellow at the Erica Jong Writing Center, 222 Barnard Hall (http://writing.barnard.edu).
