NEW YORK, MARCH 27, 2024 – Barnard College received 11,832 applications for entry into the Class of 2028, extending admission to a mere 7%. This is an extraordinary incoming cohort, with an impressive 94% of the applicants who reported a high school ranking in the top 10% of their respective classes.

The admitted class comes from 51 states and territories, as well as 42 countries, and 12% are international students. Approximately 22% are the first in their families to attend a four-year college, reflecting Barnard’s unwavering dedication to increasing access to higher education. A significant 49% of applicants applied under the College’s temporary test-optional policy, implemented at the onset of the pandemic.

Barnard released admissions decisions on the evening of Wednesday, March 27.

“This cohort of students truly stands out, with their outstanding academic achievements and resilience in pursuing their passions, despite the challenges of recent years,” said Jennifer Fondiller, Vice President for Enrollment and Communications. “We look forward to welcoming them to our campus and our community.”

Throughout April, newly admitted students will have many opportunities to visit Barnard in person and virtually to connect with students, faculty, administrators, and alumnae.

The College remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering a diverse community through programs such as Barnard Bound, which aims to identify and support high-achieving first-gen, low-income students. Barnard is also excited to welcome its third Questbridge cohort of 46 admitted students, which includes scholars from early decision and regular decision. Finally, the College continues to support several research programs geared toward first-gen, low-income students, including the  Science Pathways and Environmental Science Pathways Scholars Program and the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP).

“This incoming class proves that excellence knows no bounds and we take pride in the remarkable breadth of talent and diversity in this group,” said Christina Lopez, Dean of Enrollment Management. “We are grateful that we are able to support such excellence through financial aid that ensures that students from all backgrounds can flourish in the Barnard community.”
