Kayla McCaffrey, MA
Executive Director, Institutional Funding and Sponsored Research
Kayla joined Barnard in 2020, bringing a 12-year career in education to her role. Most recently, she was the Senior Director of Institutional Giving and Advancement Operations at Marymount Manhattan College (MMC), where she oversaw institutional funding, advancement services, and events. Kayla’s fundraising work at MMC focused on major institutional priorities, including career preparedness, the intersection of liberal and visual arts, and prison education programs. Prior to her role at MMC, Kayla was the Assistant Director of Development at NAF, a national network of education, business, and community leaders who work together to prepare high school students for college and career success. At NAF, she held a portfolio of over 20 corporate and foundation grants and served as project manager for annual Benefit, which raised between $1.5 and $2 million annually. Kayla began her career as a Spanish teacher for the NYC Department of Education. She has a BA in Spanish and an MA in Education, both from Hunter College.
Mark Godwin, MPA

Mark joined Barnard as the Associate Director of Institutional Giving in March 2014. He brings to this role over nine years of experience in higher education fundraising. Most recently he headed up the corporate and foundation funding area at Pace University. Prior to that, he worked at New York University, where he served as a prospect researcher, a writer, and ultimately, as the assistant director of corporate and foundation relations, working primarily with the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Mark started his career as a grant writer for arts organizations. He has a BA in English from Duke University and a Master’s in Public Administration from the Wagner School at NYU.
Pamela Tuffley
Senior Associate Director, Sponsored Research
Pamela joined the Institutional Funding team in August 2016 serving as the Institutional Funding Research Officer with a background in grant writing and administration. Prior to Barnard, Pamela held positions focusing on institutional giving at Primary Source, China Institute, Jewish Museum Milwaukee, and the Tenement Museum. She holds a BA in Chinese Language and Literature from UMass Amherst and a BA in Liberal Arts from Goddard College. She is currently working towards an MS in Research Administration through Johns Hopkins University.
Kari Steeves, MFA
Senior Associate Director, Institutional Funding
Kari began in Institutional Funding and Sponsored Research in August 2017. Previously, she worked as a website designer and developer and web content specialist for non-profits, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, El Museo del Barrio, and Art Education for the Blind. In these capacities, she also served as project manager and liaison between academics, administrators, and technical staff. She worked in the advertising industry building websites and client presentations while pursuing a master’s degree in fine art from Hunter College. She also held positions in curatorial and education departments of the Whitney and the Cloisters branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Kari holds a bachelor’s degree in humanities from Yale University. She continues to do creative work using a variety of media, including photography, sculpture, drawing, digital platforms, and the written word.
Liane Carlson, MA, MPhil, PhD
Associate Director, Institutional Funding and Sponsored Research
Liane joined Institutional Funding and Sponsored Research in September 2019. She brings over ten years of experience successfully writing grant and fellowship applications for her own research, during which time she secured funding from the Fulbright Association, Jacob K. Javits Fellowship Program, American Association of University Women, and the Henry Luce Foundation, among others. Prior to joining Barnard, she worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Princeton University and New York University. She holds a BA in Religion from Washington and Lee University, as well as an MA, an MPhil, and a PhD in Religion from Columbia University.
Tashiana Lipscomb, MPhil
Manager, Institutional Funding and Sponsored Research
Tashiana Lipscomb joined Institutional Funding and Sponsored Research in August 2023. Tashiana received her Bachelor's of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and moved to NYC to pursue her PhD in the Sociology of Education at New York University as a Steinhardt Fellow. Prior to joining Barnard Tashiana worked as graduate coordinator for the Race and Public Space Working Group at the Institute of Public Knowledge, a research analyst for Beyond Measure Consulting and Coaching, and with the Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program. Tashiana also maintains a commitment to teaching and adjuncts graduate and undergraduate sociology of education courses at New York University.
